Walter James Cribbs, II affectionately known as "Chubby" was born on June 27, 1935 in Marion, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Walter James and Vera Moore Cribbs, Sr. At an early age, the Cribbs family moved to Shelby County, Alabama and Walter received his education at Shelby County Training School Columbiana, Alabama where he met and later married the former Ernestine Perkins. After marriage, they moved to New York City where he served in the United States Army and National Guard before retiring as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service. He was employed as a New York City Bus Driver for the New York City MTA for 29 years before retiring and moving back to Shelby County, Alabama with residence in Calera.. He was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church Shelby, Alabama where he served in the Deacon Ministry. Funeral service will be saturday (January 9th) at 11:00 AM at his beloved Providence Baptist Church (9572 Hwt 42 35143) with Pastor Reginald Mann officiating and interment in Alabama National Cemetery. His loving survivors are: devoted wife of 58 years; Ernestine Perkins Cribbs, children; Sandra Bridget Cribbs, Tracey Lynn (Stephen) Tinnermon, Leslie Cribbs and Walter James (LaToya) Cribbs, III, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The remains will lie in repose on Friday (8th) from 1:00 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Westside Funeral Home Calera Directing.
